YAY! I love Uncle Jay Explains! By the way, I believe the 14th amendment was ratified (arguably unconstitutionally) to grant citizenship to slaves. I would bet my life’s earnings that the writers (mostly Republicans) and ratifiers of the amendment did not intend on granting citizenship to ANYONE who was born within the boarders of the United States. Anyway, thanks for the great shows Uncle Jay; I look forward to them every week!

If only our politicians had completed Back to Basic 101 taught by Uncle Jay. But no matter how many times Congress and the Supreme Court flunk kindergarten, they still get to keep their seats.

I really enjoyed your show this week, as I do every week. But I believe that at least in Spain and Ireland, if not more countries in Europe, if you are born there you are entitled to automatic citizenship.
In fact, the only country in Europe I’m certain doesn’t give automatic citizenship to those born there is Andorra.
Uncle Jay replies:
Some European countries allow it under certain conditions, but none have the flat-out birth citizenship that the U.S. does. Here’s Wikipedia on the subject: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Jus_soli
