To Mike
who stated "Obama won the peace prize for getting rid of the war mongers that had been running the country. The prize is well deserved."

The American people voted Obama in, in other words We the people got rid of the war mongers. So where's our peace prize? Obama should have turned it down.

Mike,
You wrote that Iraq didn't do anything to us. By "anything" I'm assuming you mean that Iraq didn't attack the U.S.
You've apparently forgotten all the pot-shots Iraq has taken at peace-keeping troops who were enforcing the UN-mandated no-fly zones. Apparently shooting at people doesn't qualify as an attack in your book.
Even more importantly, you've apparently forgotten that "Afghanistan" didn't attack the U.S. either.
A group of terrorists unaffiliated with any one nation attacked the U.S.
Afghanistan gave sanctuary to terrorists, and so did Iraq. Afghanistan peddled more drugs than Iraq, but Iraq violated way more UN resolutions, so there was some merit to attacking either one.

Quite simply, America CHOSE to MAKE Iraq the central front in the war on terror instead of Afghanistan. The method in which we made it the central front is simple: The minute we attacked Iraq, every Jihadi in a 1,000 mile radius flocked to Iraq.
Why would we choose to make Iraq the central front instead of Afghanistan? Easy - look at the terrain of the two countries. Our technology gave us a military advantage in Iraq. Our technology doesn't give the same military advantage in much of Afghanistan.
To make it as simple as I can, choosing the right battlefield goes a long way toward winning the war. Going into Afghanistan to hunt terrorists would have negated our advantage, so instead we goaded the terrorists into coming to us in Iraq. It's just a bonus that while goading the terrorists, we also got to remove a vile dictator who had killed tens of thousands of his own people, while thumbing his nose at the UN sanctions and the world as a whole.

Have a great day!

Thank you Tom! I was beginning to think that the whole country was as under and mis-educated as Mike.
Great to hear from someone who takes the time to get the facts.
By the way, many military folks say that Nixon was within weeks of winning in Nam before the Democrat Congress began de-funding the war, thus flushing the sacrifice of so many young Americans(including my cousin Craig) down the tubes of Johnson's War.

War Mongering;

Typical liberal bull. Kennedy got us into the Bay of Pigs and Nam, and neither he nor LBJ had a clue how to win a war. Nixon did know how to win - and tried. But, unfortunately for him (and the rest of us), the will of the American people had already been broken and the withdrawal of US forces had aready begun (peak of US numbers in Nam was at the end of 1968) before he even took office.

You seem to also have forgotten - or perhaps never knew - that without the US providing almost all of the armed forces, most of the money and most of the will to enforce UN mandates/sanctions - the UN would not exist and there would be no peace anywhere murdering despots reign supreme. Iraq ignored dozens of UN mandates and, in doing so provided safe harbor and support for whole herds of terrorists who would (and did) do the US harm. One of the most important jobs of the Commander in Chief is to choose the field of battle. President Bush chose Iraq over Manhatten. When Obama was campaigning - he claimed Afghanistan was the real "war of necessity", not Iraq. Now's the time for him to live up to his rhetoric - or lose all the ground a good commander-in-chief and hundreds of thousands of dedicated, patriotic and brave volunteers have gained us over the past 8 years.

Re: "Obama won the peace prize for getting rid of the war mongers that had been running the country. The prize is well deserved."

Obama didn't "get rid" of anybody, a small majority of misguided and/or misinformed liberal American voters elected him based, at least partially, on his promise to end the war. Fortunately, for us, he has broken that promise - just as he has almost every other one he made - and stuck with the "war-mongering" (known as "war-fighting" by informed Americans) long enough to win in Iraq. Of course, he still has the chance to rip defeat from the jaws of victory in Afghanistan - like LBJ in Nam. Only time will tell whether he has done anything remotely akin to "peace-generating". Therefore, WAY too early for a prize.

Uncle Jay,

Who do you think will win the Nobel Peace Prize next year? Michael Moore? This year, it should have gone to Michael Jackson, whose story (and music) brought many tourists to L.A.
